The San Diego Colony of the Mayflower Society is planning our first 400th anniversary event on Compact Day, November 11, 2018. It is called “Plimoth Plantation West—In Anticipation.” The event will be held at the world famous Balboa Park and is sponsored by the House of England, one of the House of Public Relations International Cottages that was built in 1935 for the California Pacific International Exposition. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the lawn area in front of the House of England.
The tour is self-guided, so please explore our exhibits at your own pace. Please stop by our displays and learn more about these interesting adventurers who bravely traveled here almost 400 years ago! Hear their stories and see what their lives were like.
Plimoth Plantation West 2018 is focused on outreach and education. There will be multiple interactive displays showing aspects of what was happening two years before the famous voyage and the life and demographics of the travelers. In addition, roving enactors representing the Mayflower passengers will greet guests and talk about their upcoming adventure. San Diego Colony invites you to join and participate in our upcoming event. You are welcome to come in the period attire of your ancestors who came to America. Hard copy brochures and fliers are available from Kathleen Loftman at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please provide your name, address, and the number of brochures you would like to receive. She can also answer questions you may have about the event. We look forward to seeing you there!
Founded in 1897, the Mayflower Society, or
General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our headquarters is located in downtown
Plymouth, Massachusetts. Membership requires proof of lineage from one of the passengers who travelled to America on the Mayflower in 1620. Our education mission includes telling the story of the Pilgrims as well as maintaining the highest standards possible for genealogy research into the lineage of the Pilgrims.
San Diego Colony
The San Diego Colony is one of 13 Colonies in the State of California. Currently we have approximately 300 members and are very active within the California Mayflower Society. We meet at least three times a year for a luncheon and program. Our annual Mayflower Compact Meeting is held in November. You do not have to be a member of our Colony to attend meetings, as we always look forward to meeting others who share our interests.

Interactive Research Meeting Overcoming “Brick Walls” and “Dead Ends”
What do you do when your family history research hits a dead-end,?
This interactive research meeting will provide an opportunity to take advantage of some of our member’s years of experience in genealogical researching skills to help you find solutions to knock down a brick wall or two.
Beginners will appreciate the opportunity to ask “Where should I start?” or “What should I do next?” Experienced researchers may find another person who knows what resource tool will bring your ancestors out from behind your brick walls. Please bring your pedigree charts and papers so we can review them.
Help us help you by submitting specific questions about your research to info@sdjgs in advance of the meeting.
Please bring any items you would like to donate to our December 3rd Hanukah Party “Silent Auction” with you to our November meeting or drop them off at the library (and put them in the box behind the desk, or leave them at the JCC Information counter marked for SDJGS Silent Auction).
Please fill out the Profile Form, on our website bottom left, so we can chart where your ancestors came from, and what surnames you are researching. When the majority of members complete this form we will create a spreadsheet and distribute it to members.
All meetings start at
Second of the month unless otherwise announced.
For more information about our society, check our website, http://www.sdjgs.org/
Please attend to experience SDJGS members helping each other
Hope to see you there!
